Just a quick note ...
There will be a clarinet competition sponsored by Sneezy.Org with entries due by (most probably) mid September. I'm finalizing details now and will post complete details within the next couple of weeks or so, but here's what we've got so far for those of you wishing to compete:
Judges:
Gregory Smith of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Forest Aten of the Dallas Opera
Music:
La Forza del Destino (the long solo - pg. 76 I believe)
The Devil's Dance from Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale
2 contemporary pieces
All music required for this competition will be available _for free_ from the Sneezy Website. Ben Armato is providing the Verdi from his Operatic Excerpts book, and John Gibson of JB Linear Music is providing the Stravinsky. I have contacted two composer acquaintences of mine for the two contemporary selections; I am awaiting their responses.
All amateurs and students are welcome to participate in the contest. There are no age brackets for this 1st competition.
All entries will be via cassette tape or CD, no exceptions. The quality of the recording will affect the decision of the judges.
1st Prize will be a minimum of $500 USD, 2nd Prize a minimum of $250 USD. If any of you who have music related business would like to contribute something towards the 1st and 2nd prizes please contact me via email.
There will be a small entry fee required, probably in the neighborhood of $10 USD.
Direct relatives of the judges and I are not eligible for the competition.
Something to keep all you students and amateurs focused during the summer "off" season ;^)

I often wondered if the "regulars" on this board would ever establish an annual Festival where we could all take turns playing or doing presentations--our own" SneezFest" or some such thing, like ClarFest. Maybe this "could be the start of something BIG!!!!" (My regards to the late Setve Allen for the quote) Good practicing, everyone.

Very good idea. Competing against some of the top guns here on sneezy will be really intense. I plan to try my hardest an give the best performance I can give and above all have fun. Wow, members of the CSO and the Dallas Opera will hear me play. It will be fun adding these peices to my repitoire.
Looking foward to it!!!!!

Will there be a seperate catagory for less than one year? OH BOY! Got new batteries for the 'ole casset recorder today and ready to record a couple of scales.
Sounds like great fun for you "good" guys and a little fun for us observers. We'll be waiting to see who among the many is top Sneezy dog.

Mark,
Is this competition gonna a "recordings" competition... or is the recording just there to audition the candidates for a potential recital competition ?
When you mean contempory pieces, do you mean contempory music (post 1950), or do you mean two pieces of the same period ?
I would find it really fun to be able to play for this competition. And even more to hear comments from American clarinet specialist on my playing.
Great idea.... Music competitions are very usefull.. not always fair, but very usefull.
Salut
Dan

Just recordings right now. Can't afford to have a real "Sneezy" festival. But maybe in a few years ...

Post 1950 - more along the lines of 1980 to present, but not requiring extended techniques (well, perhaps nothing past slap tonguing).
