In Variation 3, measures 2-4 does your copy have any slurs? Mine has absolutely none, although all other measures in Variation 3 do. My teacher is thinking there was a printing error. Also, the last measure in Var. 3 has no slurs...does yours? Thank you to whomever can be of help!

You'll need to be a lot more specific! Who is the composer? There are many, many, many versions of the Carnival of Venice written for all different kinds of instruments.

OOPS! It's for Eb clarinet by Ernesto Cavallini. At the bottom of the cover it says "Robert Lienau Musikverlag." Copyright 1899.

I solved the problem with the help of IMSLP.org. Yes, the publisher HAD left off some ties in measures 2 and 3 of Var. 3. SOOO happy to have found this! It helps make finding the melody so much easier.

Glad it worked out. Sometimes these older editions don't always have the level of articulation and dynamic precision that we are used to with modern editions.
