I just received an R13 Bb clarinet serial number 7864X circa 1964 from the original owner whose Uncle bought for him in 1965 for $400.00. He played it for 3 years until 1969 and then put it away. He was a clarinet major in college but realized that he needed to switch majors to have a better chance of earning a good living. This instrument was never overhauled and it truly is in original condition. I am just finishing the restoration and will report back with results such as tuning, tone, power etc. I will also include photos.

Congratulations on acquiring a class horn!
I really wouldn't mess with it myself -
I would contact Brannen Woodwinds in Evanston and have them do their Magic!
Worth every penny.

I did that once and had a world class repair tech overhaul an instrument only to discover that I could do the same quality job. Here is a photo of my finished work.
It is also an excellent player with all of the best features that the R13 is known for and it also plays in tune.
