 HP Bb clarinet wanted!

A distinguished colleague who is "sitting in" with Newberry's Victorian Cornet Band at a residency in Tennessee this October is in need of a playable high pitch clarinet to use for this gig. Immaculate care and even some needed --if not too major -- repairs assured! Please contact me if you can be of assistance.

Oh no - I turned down a diamond logo Sterling (a Selmer Paris stencil) HP all metal half "Improved Albert" system for that simple fact. That would've been ideal (although it's in the UK).

Something's bound to turn up on eBay

Is the player planning to purchase or borrow the instrument? I have simple system instruments at high pitch that play well and in good condition that I planned to put on ebay soon.

Wes, I assume this is a one shot for this player. I would appreciate more details on the instruments you have, though.

On looking at my instruments, I see that HP instruments might not be the same pitch and that it could be a good idea for your colleague to check the actual pitch that the band plays at and try the instrument with the band. For example, I have the following that I will probably put on ebay this fall:

1. Conn Pupeschi System in Bb at A456.

2.Buffet simple system Bb at A455.

3. Henri Gunkle simple system Bb at A450.

4. No maker given simple system Bb at A450.

Ebay this summer is probably slow for several reasons. The Pupeschi clarinet might be worth something to a collector but the others do not have a lot of value. All have been overhauled with keys buffed.

Good Wishes,

Kind thanks for your replies, Wes. I have had experience with a hard rubber Conn Pupeschi lent to me by another contributor to this board three years ago -- unfortunately that instrument had been poorly overhauled and wasn't playable for me.

There is no opportunity for my colleague to try out an instrument in the band prior to October event in Tennessee; the band meets for rehearsal only a couple of days before each of our events. I suspect that we play somewhere around A450 as I'm using a longer-than-original barrel with my own JTL Albert-system horn.

Good luck with your eBay sales -- I'll be watching for them

Larry
