Anyone have positive or critical thoughts about these reeds? It seems they get incredibly stiff after playing them for a short amount of time. Do you have to treat them differently than Traditionals and V12s?

So it may have to do with whether you have re-hydated them with a proper break-in period. This is something like, playing on one reed for a few minutes the first day, maybe a few more minutes the next, another few minutes the third day, and again just a few minutes the fourth day. After about four or five days of this it will be ok to go ahead and play the reed for as long as you like.
I find the break-in period to be a little longer with V21s. They behave much like the V12s only even more so. They tend to vary how they play quite a bit within the first three days of break-in and settle down to play quite differently after the break-in process. Once things "settle," they do play a bit more robustly than the Rue Lepics of the same strength.
I find them to have more color during their lifespan, however, they begin to deteriorate in sound a little sooner than the 56 Rue Lepic and then the sound is more akin to turning down a volume knob. With the Rue Lepics I can sense the reeds becoming more shrill before they go out, so I have a nice added indicator when I need to start a new batch.
The V21s require staying on top of your rotation of new reeds but the added color is amazing.

I recently started using V21 in addition to V12. I've been using V12 for years though once in a while I try other reeds too. I don't need to do anything different with V21 reeds. I don't break in reeds.
