I just purchased a Leblanc 400 Bass Clarinet, serial #4741. Did a search on the Leblanc site, but the earliest serial number they show for this model is 7600. I DID find Noblet bass clarinet serial numbers that include mine...anyone have any ideas? I am concerned that this may not be what the seller claims, and I have 14 days to return! Thanks in advance!

FWIW--I've never played a Leblanc bass clarinet that I have liked. They all just seem to lack the "punch" sometimes needed to project. Much prefer my Buffet low C bass or any number of Selmers that I have had the opportunity to try.

The Noblet and Leblanc basses (and plastic Vito for that matter) are acoustically and functionally identical and mechanically nearly so. Noblets have a corked tenon neck while Leblancs and Vitos have a metal sleeve neck tenon, that's how you can tell Leblanc and Noblet apart.

Fascinating. I repair lots of Noblet bass clarinets(one just yesterday) and I can't say what model. I may have just bought one that is two models (different serial numbers for upper and lower). How do I tell what the model is?
