There's a Paul Buffet clarinet on Ebay. It's plastic, and I'm interested in it because it has the Mazzeo system. Has anyone heard of a Paul Buffet, or of retro-fitting a Mazzeo system on a clarinet that's not a Selmer?

Jill -
The picture on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1426128585 is too small and fuzzy to tell much. However, the highlights on the barrel, upper joint and bell look too shiny for the instrument to be made of wood, so it's almost certainly plastic.
I think Mazzeo licensed his patent exclusively to Selmer. I've never heard of a Mazzeo Buffet. I suspect the dealer saw the letters "Bu" and jumped to Buffet instead of Bundy. Where "Paul" came from is anyone's guess. I've never heard of a Paul Buffet.
Also, the bell has a metal ring, which was not present on any of the Selmer Mazzeo instruments. I suspect it's a mongrel.
Sorry about that. I know from your postings on Klarinet that you're looking for a backup for your old Mazzeo Selmer.
Best regards.

I agree with Ken, re: poor pic, hard to see, but it looks to me like the Bundy "simple" Mazzeo [have one] where only the ring-operated, next-to-top-trill-key [for the mid-staff Bb] is added to a regular Bundy, not the "full-blown" Mazzeo, made by Selmer-Paris [would like to have one] . I can look up Mazzeo's patent #s if you wish to pursue them, quite informative. Need more info? Don
