Hi
My name is Rodrigo Andai, 46-year old new clarinet player from Chile. I used to play soprano, contralto amd tenor recorder when I was in mid-high school. I was reasonably good but nowhere near a pro. Stopped for almost 30 years, playing just once every 2-3 years. Now my 8 and 6 year-old kids started violin at school, and I decided to start again with an instrument. I wanted something that was part of an orchestra, and the clarinet seemed like a good choice.
Started studying the subject here and in other places, got myself a couple of books, and decided to kind of treat myself with a Leblanc Noblet 45 clarinet after some fact-finding amd thought process.
Have been playing for 1 month now, and things are slowly coming into place.
Hope to become an active participant, trying to use the great experience and collective knowledge I have seen here. I have plenty of doubts and questions....

I am in my 70s. Although I had about a year's lessons in piano when in my 40s, I had never held a clarinet in my hands until 2008 when I decided I wanted to learn to play that instrument. I never even had band in high school.
I first found a good teacher, and I played a rented clarinet. I bought a used Selmer Signet Special once I discovered I'd stick with it. I've been playing in a community band now for 5 years, and learning to play has been one of the best things I ever did for myself.
After a couple of years, I upgraded to a Buffet R13, but that's beside the point...if I can do it in my 70s, someone as young as you should be able to do well. I no longer have a teacher mainly because there seems to be none within 30 to 50 miles from my home, but I have learned so much from this BBoard. There's a wealth of information in the archives alone. I sometimes go back and look at threads from years ago that are of interest to me.

WELCOME!!!
Enjoy the process of learning. And it's pretty cool that you're picking up an instrument as your little ones are also learning. It'll be a good example for them to follow and you all can learn to play some stuff together.
