well, i finally got around to posting a message about that buffet i have from 1936...and my response? it's too old for them to find out what model it is! siiiiiigh...oh well. i tried.

The Buffets at that time usually put their mark on the top quality pieces (if I'm not mistaken) so atleast you know it was a pro horn at the time.

According to the serial number list on Sneezy http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Equipment/HowOld/Buffet.html, a Buffet from 1926 should have a serial number between 20,001 and 22,000. Check the serial number on yours, on the back of the upper and lower joints at the bottom. At that time, they were using larger size type for the numbers and stamping them deeper than on the older ones. If you have trouble reading the number, try scrubbing it with an old, damp toothbrush.
According to Alan Swiney, a Moennig apprentice, Buffets of this era were the best ever made. However, they did not have a particular model number, and changes were made incrementally.
