Hi Everyone
I am new to the forum and would love some help please.
I have just bought a second hand Buffet B12 Clarinet on ebay for my daughter. We put it together but the thumb piece and screw keep falling off at the back.
Without the thumb piece the screw goes in nicely and is secure however once the thumb piece is added it seems as though the screw is almost too short and will therefore not screw in tightly.
Do the screws come in different lengths? What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for any help.

This unfortunately is a very common problem on many Buffets not just B12.
The screw is made of rubbish soft alloy and is far too short so only engages about 2 threads which quickly get stripped.
My solution is to remove the thumbrest and bore a hole in the body immediately underneath the position of the faulty screw (about 3mm wide and 3-4mm deep).
Then a I make a new screw to replace the old one using hard brass of sufficient length to enter the hole by about 2mm once the thumrest assembly is put back on the body. Never had one of these fail.
Some of the later B12s already have this hole bored in the body but they still fit the rubbish soft and short screw instead of a longer one so it still fails just as previosly..
