Shon Hayashi has a gift for lyrical playing--for finding a melody line even in passages that many lesser players would consider purely as technical show.

His performance of the Weber Concertino with a community band on Youtube is also quite nice--very even and melodic. You don't say to yourself, "well there's that old warhorse again." You want to thank him for playing each section in ways that make you enjoy Weber. His phrasing mostly comes out of the music rather than being mechanically applied.

The concert band alto part is really nice. Am I brave in admitting that I have played it? LOL
