Hello everyone! I would like to ask you please...
This particular clarinet, Buffet B12...are some made in Germany some in Paris? Some elsewhere? Could someone clarify where they are made and what is made where and so forth?
Thanks bunches for your time.
Any links that say what is made where and serial numbers would be very appreciated.
God bless you all!
And thank you!

Buffet B12 clarinets are made by Schreiber in Germany.
As for who makes the componant parts (key castings, screws, springs, injection mouldings, pillars, etc.) I haven't got any info on that.
Serial numbers for these are under Buffet's student clarinets, and bear no relation to serial numbers relating to French Buffets. There used to be a serial number search engine on B&H's site, but that has now gone since the group split. Though there may be info on Buffet's site, but last time I tried to look up a number it wasn't working.

Why thank you so kindly for your information...
So may I ask, which are better, the Buffet student models from Germany or the ones from Paris? The person showing me a Buffet said it was from Paris, also called a B12....
I guess they both are Buffets, but totally not the same thing?????
I'm trying to think but nothing happens! (You know, Larry, Curly & Mo)
Thanks bunches!

Buffet student models are not made in Paris.
As Chris P was saying, Buffet B12's, E11's + 12's are made in Germany.
You have to step up to the Pro models for french production.

Don't concentrate on a specific model or a specific brand - concentrate on your abilities, your goals and - last but not least - on your financial boundaries.
Every major brand (be it Buffet, Yamaha, Leblanc, Selmer, Amati, ...) have specific ranges (eg "student", "intermediate", "professional", "guru", ...) of instruments, each in a different price category, each in a different quality category (which doesn't mean that a student instrument necessarily sounds worse than a pro instrument, but the materials used might be cheaper, the hours spent on finishing are less etc with student varieties). The country of origin does, in my opinion, not say a lot. Quality is made everywhere, as is junk. (Are French cars better than German cars? Tough call)
So...the Buffet "B" series is a student instrument, and is the functional equivalent of an "E" or "R" instrument, with different levels of finesse and finish. The "B" series is made in Germany. ("Outsourced", as one would say).

The B12 is plastic.
The E11 is a student model wood clarinet. (The wooden B12 some would say).
The R13 is the first level pro instrument. There are other more expensive models offered by Buffet.
All of these instruments are Buffet clarinets. Their prices in the US have been standardized by Buffet in the past year, so there is not much in the way of bargain shopping to do...just to make sure you are not being overcharged.
I agree with tictactux: find a price range you are comfortable with and then go try several of those clarinets, preferably with some help (private teacher).

Thank you all so very, very much for straightening me out and the information you provided. Thanks so much.
The seller was mistaken as she looked closer and pulled the instrument apart for me to let me know exactly what was what, and there it was somewhere...made in Germany.
Whew. I am glad that I am no longer confused!
THANKS EVERYBODY!

Here in Australia we generally pay higher prices for used instruments than in the US, and I wouldn't pay that much for a 12-year-old B12. They go on that auction site for $150-225 on average. I bought one in good condition for $A125 ($US140) a few months back.

There are counterfeit Buffet student clarinets that say made in France. They come from China.

Like most plastic clarinets, used B12s, plastic Evettes and B&H Regent IIs (which are all essentially the same instrument) don't sell for much - have a look on eBay to get an idea how much used ones sell for.

B12's are plastic.
E11's are no longer in production, are made of wood, and are stamped 'Germany'.
You can find used E11's in decent condition in the $300 range, I'd never pay that much for a plastic B12.
E11's have been replaced with E12F's - which are excellent choices for beginners.
You should have a clarinet teacher help you buy a used one - make sure it doesn't need a $200 overhaul. Be careful buying used.
