solo pieces for a 'family' concert
Author: PeterinToronto 2017

Hi everyone,

I've been asked to be soloist at an orchestra's family concert...does anyone know of any rep specifically for kids or a younger audience? Perhaps also involving narration?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for those ideas, they're looking for a piece that specifically features the clarinet (or saxophone) throughout...:)

Film and TV music could be good, as lots if people will know it.

The theme music from Monsters Inc would be good for a family concert if you can find a suitable arrangement (I think the original is a duet for soprano sax and trombone).

The Pink Panther theme on saxophone? (Possibly a bit dated).

Gabriel's theme from The Mission (Ennio Morricone) works with a clarinet playing the solo (originally for oboe).

Baby Elephant Walk is way more familiar than the movie it came from.

(And if you can name that movie you might need to spend more time playing music and less watching YouTube.)

Thanks Mike and Stan...and alas, I've known for a long time that The Baby Elephant Walk comes from a film called "Hatari"...but never seen the movie, just too many times adjudicating bands playing it, and a mind for musical trivia!

Thanks again,

Peter
