Just came back from trying out Theo's clarinet mouthpiece for clarinet. I was impressed. I compared it to my Kaspar and several Vandoren mouthpieces. Specifically I was looking for something with lots of power and a good sound. This mouthpiece does have a high baffle but it is hand finished so the tone is not overly edgy. Certainly it doesn't have the bottom end of my Kaspar mouthpiece but it has a solid tone with good articulation and lots more power. The throat of the mouthpiece appears to be narrower. The tip opening isn't ridiculously open and it plays easily. Pitch might be 442 plus. I didn't buy it today but I'm going back for a second trial.

For power and good sound at higher dynamic levels, I think the reference mouthpieces to the Wanne would be Backun MoBa. For me, even the close-faced Mo-Ba Camarata (C) with a tip opening of 0.99 mm. has a very wide dynamic range and a very big fortissimo and can take just about all the air most players can push into it. How does the Wanne 1.08 mm Gaia stack up against it?

Dunno....but I do know the baffle will probably give the Wanne more punch than these mouthpieces due to the high baffle. You don't need to blow your head off to produce the power.
In any case my main point here is to give a preliminary thumbs up for Theo Wanne. It's pricey but has something to it in my opinion.

Maybe you know the answer to this question having been there (?). There were a number of different types of clarinet mouthpieces available on the website a year ago to include the promise of one in his specially treated wood.....WHAT HAPPENED?

I returned to the dealer for another test run. Due to the high price of the mouthpiece( $400), I am still just considering the purchase. I'll give it some time and try again.

Did you test with tuner?
If so, is it a "lower pitch" (like Vandoren 13Series), or higher pitch?

It's high in pitch. At least 442. There were two facings and I liked the 043. It's marked on the table of the mouthpiece.

Very interesting.
Still, I'd be much MUCH more interested in a 'treated wood' version (at least he already has the sax mouthpieces in this material).
Do you recall the measurement of the other facing?
