I am considering buying a strap to use for my A clarinet only. I had each of my wrists surgically repaired (open reduction internal fixation) after I suffered basically the same fracture in each about 12 years ago. Each fracture was on the ulnar side of the arm and very near the scaffoid bone.
In the past month or two my right wrist and fingers ache after I practice. It is a rather dull ache that OTC pain meds take care of pretty well.
The A clarinet came with an adjustable thumb rest which I have put up as high as it can go because my hands are relatively small plus the added weight of the A clarinet poses a problem
Would a strap help my wrist problem if the ache goes all the way into my hand?
I am hoping a clarinetist turned orthopaedic surgeon may be able to offer some insight. Or should I just stop practicing Le Coq D'or and Peter and the Wolf and move on to something easier? (only half kidding).
Thanks.
BTW each of my clarinets are Buffet e11. The b flat from France and the A made in Germany.
