Lizzie, I think we've explained it reasonably well before. The E-11 is a fine student/intermediate clarinet. The R13 is a step or two above, and should cost you about 1800 or so. You should involve your teacher in purchasing it, since they vary from clarinet to clarinet. If you go to the Boosey & Hawkes website at http://www.boosey.com you can see lots of pictures of it.

There's no rush to buy one - take your time, work with your teacher, and have fun.

Lizzie,

If you have access to it,try out a Buffet Festival also.I played 2 Festivals and 3 R-13's before deciding on the Festival. You can really tell the difference between the 2 models. They each have their own sound and perks.
As stated before though, have a good teacher play on them and give you honest their honest oppinion.Be sure and play with a tuner and run all the scales and stuff.
Price realms: Festival...Mabey around $2200 R13....should be able to find one around $1600-1900....It just depends on the dealer and how competitive the market is.

the e13 is a better instrument than the e11
the e11 is not made at the paris factory as i understand it and is a much inferior instrument than the e13
think about it

Actually some people prefer the German made E11 to the E13. It's all a matter of taste - money doesn't necessarily figure into the equation. Both are fine mid-level instruments.
