The current line of Selmer crystal mouthpieces have three facings. They are #1, #2, and #3. Which would work best with a 2 1/2 strength reed?

I am assuming that you are using a strength 2 1/2 reed on a mouthpiece currently. Loosely speaking (and a mean VERY loosely speaking) if you know the tip opening dimension and length of facing (distance from tip down to where reed and mouthpiece meet) on both your current mouthpiece and all three of the Selmers (the company's number designation only serves to compare amongst the three, NOT everyone else's mouthpieces), then you may make a somewhat intelligent stab in the dark guess.
This is because there are many other important variables in mouthpiece dimensions that can never fully be quantified.
I suggest taking the dealer up on whatever return policy he has to try out a bunch (you may very well not like any of them).
Once you have the selection, start out with the smallest tip opening first, working your way up the line. Do this deliberately, trying as much of the range of the horn and varied articulations and speeds as you can. Things that just don't work can be disregarded and you just move on to the next selection.
