hey everyone. im new hear. happy to meet you all.
ive been saving up, and im intrested now in buying a good quality serious instrument to the best of my ability, that fits my needs. i was searching around online and came to your website. i see you have alot of experience.

i play music often live with a wedding band. we play jewish wedding type music, based on rock/klezmer style hybrid music. its intresting and i need a recorder that has good prescene and quick action. (not sure if that depends on the recorder or not, but explaining anyways to see if it helps)
in addition i also record my own compositions which are more ethnic piano based nature style music.
i am an expresive player and enjoy to be able to put out emotion through the recorder as much as possible
if you can think of a recorder that can well fit these situations.

i recently bought a pearwood huber model II soprano as it seemed best for my needs, to the store owner of where i bought it from(antique music). i havent recieved it yet in the mail, so i cant tell you my reactions or thoughts on it yet. i figured for the alto which is more of an investment, to get second opinions. i would be happy also to hear your thoughts about my previous purchase if you would have thought of something else than the huberII.
i havent seen anyone else other than this store owner saying how amazing the huberII are.

i was thinking about the mollenhaur denner alto. but he still thinks the huber II is superior in build quality etc.

my budget is currently around 350$. i would be happy to spend less if there was something cheaper, but i dont want to save the money on something that will be a real difference in quality for what i want.

Hello.

Do you know this internet shop: http://blockfloetenshop.de/index.php

They claim they have 1000 recorders in stock. So at least from their catalogue you could compare alto recorders from top (eg. von Huene) to middle class-Mollenhauer, Moeck, Huber etc.

I have the Molenhauer Pearwood Alto Denner and love it! I'm more rennaisance and folk music, though. It has great warm overtones.

I play lots of recorder. Frankly, I don't think even the loudest acoustic recorder can balance in a klezmer band. If you can't switch to clarinet, you need the amplified Elody alto http://www.mollenhauer.com/index.php/en/neu-elody-flute#.UZwxl8ogFMY, which costs $2,200 without the computer, amplifier and speakers.

Philippe Bolton makes an electroacoustic alto http://www.flute-a-bec.com/electrgb.html ( €1522.00 or $1,968). He has audio clips on his site. He will also attach the mechanism to your recorder for €305 ($394), but you will need to supply the electronics and learn how to use the software.

You can always play into a microphone and amplifier/speaker onstage. In that case, it doesn't matter how loud the recorder itself plays. You'll need to stand all the way upstage to avoid feedback.

The loudest unamplified alto is the Mollenhauer Helder ($2,950) followed by the Mollenhauer Modern ($890 to $1,678 depending on configuration). I own a Modern to low F in grenadilla. It's easy to play and responds instantly, with extremely powerful low notes and a nearly infinite extension up high. It's much too loud to play in recorder ensembles, but it's great with piano. With a wailing Klezmer band, not so much.

hey thnks so much for the replys.
when i think about it, actually the alto i need will be mostly for recordings and small acoustic settings. no need here which one is louder
whats most important for me in this descicion here is sound quality and expressiveniss.
so has anyone here experience both with the huberII and the mollenhauer denner, or other recorders in that class and price range (around 350$) and can give their opinion?
im also open to any other suggestions.
thnks

SB
