Hi everyone,
I'm looking at the Peters edition of the Spohr clarinet concerto no. 2 and have a question about the turn in the fifth last bar of the second movement.
The turn is on a written F#, with a natural sign (indicating to go up to G natural) and a sharp sign (indicating to go down to E sharp).
Every recording I've listened to (and I have a lot) plays the E sharp as the bottom note of the turn.
However, the Michael Collins recording actually takes the sharp sign to cancel the Eb as part of the key signature and plays an E natural as the bottom note of the turn.
I'd never thought about this way, but I think it works quite well. Anyway, my question is - should the bottom note of the turn be played as an E natural or an E sharp?
If the majority of recordings are anything to go by, then I suspect the E sharp is correct. Although, maybe Spohr wanted the turn to cancel the key signature and be an E natural? Could it be an editorial mistake thing?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
