Is this possible? I just got a fixer-upper to donate. I know how to repad, recork, and such, but I think this may just end the clarinet's life. I don't know if there was a metal ring screwed in or if the plastic got broken somehow. The hole is smooth and round, but it is as wide as the ring. There is no seal at all. It is a 3-piece clarinet, so I can't just replace the section, even if I wanted to.

Yes, the thumb tube is gone. I didn't know the proper term.
It is a plastic Holton Collegiate with a one-piece body. Not exactly a million $ horn, but the rest of it is in great shape, so I hate to just throw it away. It's also unusual, which I like. And the case is great for a donation to a middle school student. Who wouldn't want brass doodads and an orange, glittery handle?

That's crazy, I just sold one of those for parts yesterday. If it is the same one, they are hard rubber. Even mint condition I think they are only worth about $50, though.
