New BAM Trekking Double Clarinet Case

I've had two of the older BAM Trekking cases for two clarinets, both are in the hands of students now. I was looking for something lighter and more compact, and was pleasantly surprised to see a new model from BAM. It has the "carbon fiber look" shell that is from their very popular models for violin, viola, and cello.

I ordered it from Weiner and it shipped free, arrived today. It's a great little double case, and the expandable front pocket is exactly what I needed. The BAM really is quite small, about the same size as the Protec single carry-all case. However, all the pieces are stored separately, including the lower joints/bells. The integrated backpack straps are very nice, although the one thing that detracts from the design is the lack of any attachments for a single shoulder strap.

Now, I have two Yamaha CSG clarinets so the top joint isn't standard length. I'm happy to report that the interior is just flexible enough to fit them perfectly. With the tiny amount of remaining space I'm still able to fit two mouthpieces, cleaning swab, cork grease, and screwdriver.

They look pretty cool! Did you consider the Bonna cases at all? They have adjustable inserts which made it easy for them to accommodate my r-13s and later my CSGii clarinets.

I checked out the MB case, but I was really looking for something much smaller...I'm really impressed with the form factor of the new Trekking double case. :)

Before the original BAM trekking case, I had a very nice Wiseman, one of the big cylinders wrapped in leather. It was a fantastic case, but the weight started to really kill my shoulders, even with the backpack straps.

Is this the case you wrote about: http://www.muncywinds.com/index.php/bam-double-clarinet-trekking-case.html

Or did you mean the more expensive "high tech" double case??

Yes, that's the one.

The other issue with these is that the cover scratches easily (you have to use car scratch remover to get the marks out). It's like that for all their string instrument "Hightech" cases as well, the finish just shows wear really easily.

I've attached two pictures that show the outside of the case, as well as the interior holding both CSG's, three barrels (including a Backun MoBa!), two mouthpieces, cork grease, and a swab.

Something that interests me from the description is the pull-out rain cover. Have you had inclement weather in which to try this out yet? Always having to find a trash bag and struggle to get the straps to a workable point is a bit of a pain.

You know, I'm not sure if there *is* a rain cover with this case. The description might be pulled from some of the other Trekking cases (I know the violin ones have a rain cover).

I must be losing it, but I can't for the life of me see where one might be stashed on this double clarinet case. Maybe it's integrated into the compartment with the backpack straps and I'm just not seeing it? :)
