 Lip Piercing
Author: CrisVanV

I was once a clarinet major. My capricious youth got the better of me, and I chose to quit college. After I quit I got a lip piercing in the center of my bottom lip. I have recently picked up playing again and I do understand it will take time and practice to form my embouchure again-as my break has been almost 15 years. However, regarding the piercing, does anyone have any experience with a piercing and it’s potential to inhibit the embouchure To re-strengthen?

It's been discussed numerous times before:

I did have one student with a lip piercing. She took the ring out when she played. If it caused a problem, I didn't hear it and she didn't complain about pain. If yours is healed I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. Your lip isn't generating the sound and doesn't need to vibrate freely the way a brass player's lips do.
