I have a Evette-Schaefer Master Model, serial number K9044. Can someone tell me if this is a pre R-13 or a pre E-11. From what I've been able to find out is it was produced some time around 1961.

There is a lot of speculation regarding the E&S Master Model. At one time some were claiming that they were cosmetically flawed R-13's but this has been largely debunked. At the moment I believe that the most widely accepted theory is that Evette & Schaefer clarinets that performed particularly well during final testing were given the "Master Model" stamp.
Consider it to be a high-end intermediate instrument but not quite a professional level clarinet.

I have played or owned several Master Models and they were very nice. All were better than a mediocre R13. One of them was really quite excellent in every way.
