I just purchased a recording of Harmonie music from Don Giovanni on iTunes. It's played by the Amadeus Ensemble, conducted by Julius Rudel. I can't find any information online about the Amadeus Ensemble in this recording, and was wondering if anybody knew who played in it?

Very little information is now available on the net about the New York players who made up the Amadeus Wind Ensemble whose harmoniemusik recordings with Julius Rudel of Mozart operas are so wonderfully & delightfully played. Chances are it's John Moses who can be reached at JOHNJMOSES@aol.com. His phone number is 201 944 0845 in New Jersey. These arrangements first came to many people's attention when the Netherlands Wind Ensemble first recorded them on 33rpm. The Dutch guys, which first included future conductor Edo de Vart on oboe, play this music in a much rougher rustic wind-band style than their more polished and gentlemanly New York counterparts.

Further research reveals that on Rudel's Harmoniemisik recording of The Marriage of Figaro the players were: Leonard Arner and Robert Botti, oboes -- John Moses and Mitchel Estrin, clarinets -- Stewart Rose and Debra Poole, horns -- Frank Morelli and Harry Searing, bassoons -- Jack Kulowitsch, Alvin Brehm and Richard Fredrickson, doubles basses
