On a lark and based on a recommendation I saw on Clarinetpages (link: http://www.clarinetpages.net/vintage-odd-brands/magniere-paul-magniere), I snatched one up (for not too much $) on the evil auction site, just to see for myself. What arrived was a horn in very good condition that showed lots of promise and was the twin of the one reviewed on the site!
After a meticulous overhaul, it's back in my hands and playing unbelievably well. It is solidly built, has a wonderful dark tone (not unlike an A clarinet IMHO), good ergos, and uncommonly good intonation. My tech and I suspect that it's an SML stencil based on keywork, solid and quality build, and several other factors (it has many characteristics in common with a King Marigaux it seems, including being made in the late 1960's). I'm not quite ready to use it to replace my R-13, but it's a darn good back-up horn at a fraction of the cost.
After a search of this Board and the internet in general, I found little information, so I thought that I would share what I have uncovered and see if others have additional insight.
