I was wondering if any of you, since you are interested in the clarinet, knew of a recording of Benny Goodman's "Concerto for Clarinet." I don't believe it is the Copland piece. As I remember it was two sides of an old Victor Red Label record, and dated from the late forties. Any suggestions you have about where or how to look would be appreciated. Yes, I'm working my way through the major search engines; no luck so far.

I thought it was Artie Shaw that wrote that piece.

I too have never heard of Benny's Concert but artie did one with a swing begining, a boogie woogie middle and a melodic, more clasical end, with the last run a chromatic one which he jumps octives, ending on a high, high C.

Copeland wrote both a concerto and a sonata.

Actually, the Copland Clarinet Sonata is a transcription of his earlier Violin Sonata. I've heard a couple of records of it and, while it's always good to have something for our instrument by an important composer, for me it doesn't work well on clarinet.
