What dose anyone know about hand carved Frank Kasper Mouthpieces? I have one given to me by my father. It is great and I am NOT interested in selling it but I was wondering about vale and what other clarinet players think of them. All I have ever been able to find out is that they are highly esteemed and of great value. Thank you for your help.

Rachel,
I just bought a Kaspar Cicero from a friend on eBay who owns 11 of them. It is wonderful beyond belief and was worth every penney of the large sum I paid for it. It has a lot of power and great tone and has allowed me to "cross over" into a dimension of playing that had previously been very difficult for me. BUT, not all Kaspars are created equal. My friend send me a box of mouthpieces (some non-Kaspars from a Riffault blank) containing several Kaspars and they were all different. The Cicero mouthpieces are the best, in my limited opinion. I tried an Ann Arbor and a Chicago also.
You might look up the Kaspar mouthpieces on this website. Clark Fobes wrote an article about these mouthpieces. You'll find it at http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Equipment/MBL/Kaspar.html
I'm a fan and would love to own another one.
Smiles,
