I'm just wondering what new and exciting things people came across at this year's Clarinetfest. I'm especially curious about new products people tried at the exhibit booths, any new compositions that were premiered, or performers you heard for the first time. I didn't go this year but had a great time in Austin last summer!

AKC and Vadavati tore things up at the Indian concert Wednesday night, and Matthias Muller had a great all-star program of his music Friday morning.
Other than that, I was mostly involved with my own booth, presentation, and shenanigans, all of which I think went pretty well.

Corrado Giuffredi did a spectacular recital.
I bought a ton of music (pedagogy mainly - stuff like Gingras book, Ridenour's updated book, etc), and a BG Duo Ligature.

My daughter mostly enriched Gary Van Cott, which is fine with me. She needed more sheet music!

The new clarinet from Anigua, body by Backun is pretty spectacular. This is an amazing clarinet that will come in under any body's budget.

I meant to post about this ages ago- at clarinetfest 2011 i was very lucky to sample the Barrels (for Boehm system clarinet) made by Schwenke und Seggelke. These barrels aren't shown on their website as "after market" items, and have a silver ring on the lower end, with no metal ring at the mouthpiece socket.
I ended up buying a 65mm barrel (as a 442 barrel, or to use in the winter- NZ is not big on central heating), and sampled about 20 of them- picking out my favourite was hard as they were VERY consistent. Out of the 20 or so I tested there were maybe one or two that stood out as being a little stuffy.
At the moment I'm using this 65mm barrel (it being winter in the southern hemishpere) and find it plays with a clearer tone quality than my other barrels, not quite as much "core" (or "timbrel concentration") as my other barrels but a very "round" sound. In the last few weeks I've used it for medium sized groups playing contemporary music, and as acting Principal clarinet in two of the professional orchestra here in Auckland (in varying acoustics) and had no problems projecting in a large hall.
I also selected a very fine Taplin/Weir barrel for my A clarinet which i have been using for solo and chamber playing over the past 8 months and with which i am very happy.
