Does anyone know this clarinet M. Lacroix? This is a bass clarinet (low Eb), only says "Made in France", no serial number. Maybe a stencil? Or was Lacroix an actual factory? Estimated by someone (I don't know who) to be from the around the 40s. Made of wood and has the automatic double register mechanism.

I've seen a Lacroix bass clarinet before. I thought it looked a lot like a Malerne. Pictures are always quite helpful.

OK here are some photos. I might have a photo of the upper joint later. The tunable part of the neck is a later modification and is not original.
Did Malerne ever make bass clarintes with the double register mechanism? I've never seen one but it's possible.

Some earlier Malerne bass clarinets (wood models only) did have a double register vent mechanism. Until I see the upper joint photos I can't say for sure whether or not your Lacroix is a Malerne product. Maybe 7-8 years ago I restored an M. Lacroix bass clarinet and sold it, all I remember was that the metal of the keywork was really soft (a Malerne characteristic, unfortunately!).

OK thanks. I will get photos of the upper joint when I can. I checked and the keys of this bass clarinet are definitely not what I would call "really soft". Some nice design features on this model e.g. correct shape of neck key linkage arm to allow it to work in any position.

Hmmmm....I was thinking it looks Thibouville-ish...I also have an M. Lacroix C clarinet that I'm pretty sure is a Thibouville.
Who knows....if it plays well and works for you, then the maker is irrelevant.
