 Selmer mpc with odd markings

Does anyone recognize the marks on this Selmer mpc? It has the initial "EM" to the left of the table, a large checkmark to the right, what looks like tic-tac-toe on the bottom back.

I'm assuming they are just the owner's scrawls, and not "Everett Matson." Or "Eddie Murphy."

Thanks!
Bill.

Can't be of any help; But whomever was playing tic-tac-toe seems to need a refresher course in the rules!

EM almost certainly means refaced by Everett Matson. The tic-tac-toe marking could very well indicate facing length and tip opening, in this case medium for both, but that's just a guess. He worked on several mouthpieces for me, and he didn't put any markings on them.

Probably someone's scratched their initials and other identification marks in it.

I've seen two Selmer SA80II tenors with the owner's names crudely scratched in on the bell lip where it's visible! So some people do daft things - either when drunk or sober.

Ken,

I wondered whether it might be Mr. Matsen's mark. The check mark would seem to be something more than what the player would put there. Plus, the marks look "confident," like somebody who's used to making the marks.

Thanks.
Bill.

Over the years Matson did many mouthpieces for me, my students, colleagues, etc. He never put any markings on any mouthpieces. He was a rather humble man who did not believe in putting any type of signature on the pieces he worked on.

Thanks Ed. Then they are likely not his markings. These are quite 'bold'.
