 Multiphonics in Lauridsen Canticle
Author: Bob Barnhart 2017

Within the month I will be playing Morten Lauridsen's Canticle (as part of his O Vos Omnes for women's voices and chimes). This work is for solo clarinet and includes 4 repetitions of two multi-phonic chords:

1) F4#+C5# (transitioning to...)
2) D4+D5#

Both my practice and research to date suggest that these are rather difficult to produce.

I have little experience with multiphonics and would be very grateful for any suggestions on (1) multiphonic technique in general (embouchure, airstream, voicing, mouthpiece/reed, etc.) and (2) fingerings/techniques for these particular multiphonics.

Thanks!

Bob Barnhart
