 Synthetic Cork Grease
Author: Neophyte

I've seen some new synthetic cork greases advertised - one by The Doctor, are these any good? People have told me about one called Alisyn that they say is fantastic and lasts forever - where can you get it? What is in these synthetic greases and will they rot my cork like the smelly chap stik kinds? It would be nice not to have to grease my corks so often!

Hi all,
My synthetic cork grease is an Alisyn like product with the same exact military specifications and qualities required by NASA for aerospace lubricants. Both are super expensive even in bulk but well worth the price for treating cork. They will not rot cork like petroleum based products and require a lot, lot, less frequency of application. Alisyn can be obtained from Aerospace Lubricants Inc., in Cincinnati, OH. The price I believe is $4.95 for 10 gm (which seems small but it lasts forever because you need to use so little) plus a shipping and handling fee of $5.95. My experience, and that of many others, is that synthetics are superior products. Other cork treatments pale in comparison to the lasting lubrication of the synthetic cork grease although the natural preservative products make the cork last a lot longer - synthetics show cork replacement time slightly better than petroleum based products.

I have tried the dr. product and think it is quite good. One is made from elm bark and sure smells pretty.

The synthetic greases are fantastic. I have sold it now to a couple of thousand customers in New Zealand and I don't believe ANY of them have changed back to all the othe rubbishy products that are around. the synthetics have been available to shops (at least those with repair departments) for some time. Why don't they stock it? More interested in high profits on VERY cheap products than in high quality, expensive products from which high profits are difficult to glean. Don't believe for a minute that they are looking after their customers!!!!
