What is warping? Like I understand that it is to get out of shape, but how can you tell that something has been "warped"?

well you need to know what it should look like (whatever "it" is) and compare to what it actually looks like. If it's warped you should see that. I take it your question relates to mouthpieces?

Really quick answer!
If something should be flat, but wobbles back and forth when you put it on a true flat surface, it is likely warped.

Take a piece of printer paper. It's flat. Let it soak up some water, and let it dry on it's own on a table. It'll be warped. It'll be wavy. Twisted. WARPED!

If a reeds warped you can look at it and you'll see that towards the tip it bends down slightly

I think Wertty/Katie has enough answers.
She did not specify the type of material involved with respect to warpage.
It could have been reeds of course, equally it could have been mouthpieces.
It could even have been about starships or fabric weaving, in which case Wertty/Katie has come to the wrong website in the first instance.

Ned, you are absolutely correct. I was just doing some research and found that the word "warped" is frequently used to describe many aspects about the clarinet. Thanks everybody for all the fantastic answers!
