 Mozart Accompaniment Cuts
Author: orchestr
Date:   2011-11-13 04:32

I am recording the first movement of the Mozart in a week, and have made cuts to most of the tutti sections of the piano part. However, I couldn't really find any good cuts in the tutti before the recap (m. 227-246). Any ideas? About the most I thought I could cut is 4 bars: 229-230, and 235-236.

In my view, there aren't any 'good' cuts in any of it. It's acceptable to start seven and a half bars before your first entry, thus cutting the orchestral exposition; but apart from that, if you're providing an audition recording, I'd say you risk being thought philistine if you cut. (And anyhow, they'll have made up their minds about you well before you get to the first orchestral tutti.)

(If you're not providing an audition tape, and you cut, then you ARE philistine:-)
