 Buffet Barrels: Muncy, Moennig, Chadash

What one do you all like the best? It's been a while since I've played any of them and looking for something with a deep sound and helps me play more in tune! I know ultimately that it all depends on how I play/what I like, but would really value your opinions! Thanks

FWIW, over the years I've tried many custom barrels and keep coming back to my original issue "stock" barrels--except for E11 C clarinet on which I play with a Chadash barrel. Of all the "custom" barrels out there, I still prefer my old Lee Springer products--but for now, they are collect'n dust.......

I've never liked the original barrels and don't know many people who use them.

Chadash Barrels are great and have been around for a while. A lot of people use them and I have in the past as well.

Muncy Barrels are in my opinion by far my favorite design. I think that for Buffet to take Phil Muncy's specs and add them to the line up says a lot about the quality. The tone, clarity and intonation on the Muncy's are fantastic. So fantastic that I've bought many more Muncy Barrels than I should have.

I believe they run $150 from Muncy or Walter Grabner. You can probably locate them online on action sites, or the classifieds too.

To the discriminating player a barrel is almost as important as a mouthpiece and the only way to know which type and model is to try them with your clarinet and mouthpiece. No one barrel can play the same way for everyone. It's almost a silly exercise to ask what your favorite one is because that tells you only what that person liked not what actually is the best one for you. I noticed you didn't even mention some of the other popular barrels on the market, an example, the Backuns are probably one of the most popular ones today, does that mean they'er the best, for some yes, for some no. I use Backuns on some of my clarinets and a Seigal on one. ESP eddiesclarinet.com
