What exactly should be expected in a typical "service and adjustment" for a well used clarinet? And how much should one look to pay for this tune-up?
I imagine that pads, corks, and keywork is gone over, and repaired/adjusted as needed, but is there anything else that would be done while in the shop? Is cleaning considered part of this service? Do techs charge for each pad replaced, or is some kind of pressure testing done to look for leaks?
It makes alot of sense to have a horn in good playing condition, but not sure what to ask for, or to realistically expect for a basic service being performed.
Looking forward to a better playing clarinet...
Enlighten me. Thanks!

Cleaning, oiling the bore and polishing silver plated keywork should all be included in a general service - the toneholes should also be inspected and cleaned as a mixture of fibres, skin cells, dust, grease and other things tend to build up in them over time and have the most marked effect on the top joint toneholes.
The price will vary from one tech to another, but that doesn't mean the most expensive is the best or the leat expensive is the worst - go for the most reputable tech, especially one with good references from reliable sources.
