I just brought a new buffet crampon e11 France. I was just wondering if you were supposed to be able to see the wood. Most wooden clarinets Ive seen were all black unless theyve had them for a while. But this one is black but you can definitely see the wood especially on the barrel. I also noticed that some of the e11s come in the backpack case while others come in a brown case. Are the ones that come with a brown case an older model or what? I dont really know much about buffet clarinets.

You should probably be able to see the grain of the wood fairly easily. Buffet and most other manufacturers typically dye the wood for most of their clarinets these days since it is difficult to find pieces of grenadilla wood large enough to make a clarinet out of that are uniform in color. It's possible that the dye used on your instrument wasn't quite as dark as what was used on some of the other instruments you've seen.
Unfortunately most of the wood used today isn't nearly as good as the wood used in the post. If you look at some of the instruments made 50+ years ago from old growth timber the grain is so tight that you sometimes have trouble even telling that it is wood without a really close inspection.

the case is different because the new E11 is produced on France ... Before, they produced in Germany.. So the case is like the others... I think this is just to differenciate

There are now four cases that E11s might come in. There is the backpack case which is the newest for the E11 France, the E11 with Chinese keys comes in an oddly tan/brown case. Last year the E11 France came in the typical dark, R13 case, and the older E11s from Germany were in a brown case, slightly more chocolate in color.
The E11 from France still has the word France under the 11 and silver plated keys so it's fairly easy to tell it from the nickel key one.
