Hello Everybody:)
Here is my dilemma, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:
Okay, I went to a Winter Band Festival @ UGA this past weekend. I was so excited because my reed and my mouthpiece clicked all weekend and everything sounded great. (I'm using a Zonda Reed, sz. 4, and a Vandoren 5RVL mouthpiece)
So I'm all happy and I get home to practice Monday night, and the tone and everything that was great has disappeared. I'm practicing right now for my audition next week, so this is not good. I can't get that tone back to save my life. This happens like every couple of months, I get great tone for a while, then it goes away and comes back. Anybody have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Or maybe some new reeds to try? Thanks a bunch

I personally have never (well.. not never, but very rarely hear about) Zonda Reeds. I would suggest going to a different reed, if that doesn't help, maybe your reed is wearing out. I know, when I play a reed for a while (yeah, I know, you are not supposed to play on just one all the time) it basically wears out, and then there goes my tone. You might want to try a new Zonda, or get a different brand of reed.

How do you store your reeds? It sounds like this one may be warped.
Double check for flatness on the table, without the ligature.
With back lighting, lay the reed on the mouthpiece table and look for any light coming through. Do the same looking down the long axis of the reed.
You could sand the reed true, using 600 grit sand paper on a flat surface, like plate glass or a mirror.
Please consider discussing this with your teacher. I've never heard you play, but the teacher may be able to verify where the problem starts.
(When my tone goes dull, it is often do to some change in tongue position or what my upper lip does (or doesn't).
The flatness check should be pretty straightforward.
