So my local youth orchestra is having auditions in about a month and has (still) yet to post the music. However, they have uploaded a link to a performance on Youtube. The piece is the Elgar Enigma Variations. Since they have not yet specified which movements are to be used for auditions but have only linked a recording of the first two, I have an inkling it will probably be just these movements. But back on track; auditions are in a month, my teacher had to cancel this week's lesson, and I have to cancel next week's due to having my wisdom teeth pulled. That said, I don't have much time to play, but lots to listen and think musically. So, any suggestions on the piece overall, especially being expressive and finding places to breathe in the solos? Links I found to the music and recording are below. Thanks much in advance.

There is one variation which has the two clarinets quite exposed in, I think, thirds which is tricky for intonation (sorry can't remember the name or number but it comes quite early on in the full piece) and also one (I think it's ***) which has a quote for clarinet from Mendelssohn's Calm Sea and a Prosperous Voyage. My guess is they might pick on those bits.
Good luck in the audition!

Ditto with imslp - their site is down for some reason. It was fine last night when I was on there.

You are getting your wisdom teeth pulled three weeks before an audition?
Have you talked this over with your dentist?
It would be nice if those on the Board who have had this done would chime in here, but I would seriously, seriously question whether you would be able to play at all, much less audition, in the weeks following a wisdom tooth extraction.
Please check this out very soon if you are serious about the audition!

The IMSLP site has been frozen. See my posting on the subject.

Some players can get back to playing in a few days, some in a week and some not until a few weeks after having their wisdom teeth pulled. It will depend on how much cutting has to be done. Just wanted to let you know. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

It has been many years since I had my wisdom teeth removed. But as I recall, I would not have been in very good "audition" form a mere three weeks later. It will be several days before you would be able to play much. Can you delay the removal till after the audition?
