It was pretty darned fun! I broke out an A clarinet that I haven't played in about 9 years (GASP!). Bought from Dave Spiegelthal at a cheap price a LONG time ago (I wanted a cheap but functional A clarinet) and it worked out pretty darned well! A broken spring causing a pad not to close, but hey, it HAS been 9 years and everything else still worked! Oh yeah, HUGE crack in the barrel, but it hasn't gone through yet! So it was still good for the concert....
We played March Militaire No 1, some other piece (sorry, can't remember), and the third movement to Beethoven's fifth (which I WISH I had a C clarinet for instead of having to play and transpose using the Bb). I got the music about three days before the concert and didn't do too bad considering. Did pretty good transposing too! Especially for not ever having to actually do it before! Thank goodness for recognizing the patterns and realizing the accidentals. Just always throws me off when I see a Bb and I have to play a C nat, or an Eb and have to play an F nat. Got me a few times...
I think I'll have to start looking around for some community bands/orchestras. It was fun to get away from my band and play with others.
