Impressive technology, although the Abominable Doctor Phibes already accomplished much the same thing with an entire orchestra, way back in 1971. He made his robotic musicians look more or less humanoid, too. *And* he looked like Vincent Price. Of course, all that ended rather badly, but not through any fault of the automatons.
Playing the YouTube clip of the robot clarinet brought Jane Feline dashing up the stairs and onto my lap. As soon as the clip finished, she hopped to the floor, flapped her tail a couple of times in an annoyed way, marched over to the piano bench, miaowed at me and pawed at the case holding the clarinet I've been practicing the most lately. She sat there "reminding" me for a couple of minutes, then (when I failed to obey this summons) let out an irritated yowl and stomped off down the stairs again. I'm not sure whether she simply meant she wanted to hear some more clarinet (first cat I've ever known who likes clarinet), whether she meant to dare me to try to play "Flight of the Bumblebee" as fast as the robot played it (no, I can't), whether she meant to say she prefers live, whether she meant that robot plays better than I do or what....
But seriously -- clever choice of music, since it isn't nearly as ruined by the extraneous clippity-clappity noise and the lack of expressiveness as, say, Mozart would've been. I don't think living bodies have anything to fear from this simulacrum just yet.

I actually thought it was kinda funny to watch. I actually chuckled.
When you really think about it, it's hilarious.

It won't catch on until the robot loses that "titanium" tone in favor os something truly "dark."
Not that anyone can really define what that is.....

Lelia,
Your post made me chuckle. We don't have a cat, only a turtle. You should see it try to cover its ears (?) when I play.

Apparently the robot is saving up for a new mouthpiece and a wooden instrument. It just isn't satisfied with its set-up. The operators say that it never displayed any sense of dissatisfaction before, just when it started playing clarinet.
