Hello,
My name is Sean Mason. I am a band instrument repair technician located in NE PA. I have been reading some posts on this forum for a while, and I have decided to become more pro-active in my attempts to be the best technician I can be. This of course means gleaning all the valuable information off of these boards and utilizing as much of it as I can in my repair practices. I am primarily a brass player and I have a BM in jazz performance from Moravian College in Bethlehem PA. I am also a graduate of the Renton Technical Colleges band instrument repair curricula. I look forward to learning many nuances about the clarinet from these forums.
Thanks ,
-Sean

Welcome, Sean.
I'm here for very similar reasons, I promise this place to be a gold mine of valuable information.
I've learned a lot by being on this forum and many others have and will continue to as well! Enjoy your stay.

Well, while we're all introducing ourselves...
Coming from a non-musical oriented town, there is nowhere to turn for expert help and advice apart from my private teacher. However, her primary instrument is flute. So, while she's a wealth of information I craved being able to discuss opinions between a variety of clarinetists. That's what I found here :) I admittedly don't post much, but I read the threads intently.

I am currently taking a gap year to prepare an audition for universities. Auditions will be September and hopefully this time next year I'll be on the way to becoming a high school music teacher. I have just upgraded from my Buffet B12 to an R13, which should arrive by Monday (fingers crossed)! I'm just a little bit excited!

I love it here, and I'm sure you will too. I've definitely learnt a lot since starting coming here.

Never Bb, sometimes B#, and always B natural! ♫♪

You might also want to join the Yahoo Musical Instrument Technician board. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/musical_instrument_technician/

Welcome Sean!!!!

How are things going up north? I think you might be one of the only repair shops up there, I'll hope your shop is packed and stays that way.

This board has several extraordinary techs that contribute daily/weekly, they have both ideas and methods that will surely help you get clarinets repaired correctly.

Did you open your own shop or are you a part of one of the existing shops? In any case, the best of luck, call if you need anything!

Scott,
Wow! didn't expect to bump into any I knew here, this is great. I'll be sure to read here as often as I can now that I know you post here, I don't want to miss anything.

I opened my own shop up in Factoryville. It's a pretty small operation right now, just in my basement. But I'm doing repairs for 3 other music stores that don't have in house techs. The best thing about it is I get to work at my own pace, and consult notes from school/books during repairs and make sure I'm doing everything correctly. Each repair I do gets me a little bit better and little bit faster. So there is an upside. Thanks for the luck, and hopefully we'll be in touch soon.
