need Pedler help

I'm retired and recently started restoring old clarinets as a hobby.I have a Pedler B flat which my parents purchased used in 1957 (it was old then) for me to learn on and I played it until 1965. The serial number is P18636. I also have another one, serial number P22481, which is slightly different, having a threaded lyre socket on the center joint. Does anyone have any old Pedlers which were purchased new to use as reference for manufacture dates? Thanks for any help.

I had a Pedler serial # P11664 that was purchased new in either 1945 or 1946. I have purchased and restored seven Pedlers including two that were 7 ring instruments. They all were very good players. I understand that the Pedlers are equivalent to the Buffet E11. Based on what the Pedler sold for in the 40's, if they were on the market today they would probably sell for around $1200 -$1500.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure you know Pedler serial number records are non-existent. I was guessing my original was late 1940's so I think I'm close. After not playing for over 45 years I was suprised that I could still read music and remembered most of the fingerings. I'm sticking with the inexpensive Pedlers, Artleys, Vito's so far to gain experience restoring. Next I'm starting a silver plated Capital and a wood Pruefer. Hope to eventually
resell some of them at a break even price to keep the hobby going. Thanks again.

I guess there are more than one of us who quit playing for a very long time and then started again. I started playing in 1943 at nine years old and played clarinet, alto and tenor sax until 1955. I did not start playing again until 2005 and like you was surprised that I could still play. I now play in three community bands and a 17 piece jazz band. I am trying to make up for all those years that I did not play. I am so thankful that we have a good number of community bands here in the Phoenix area to play in.
