But how's it sound?

Having done a search on Siour-Chapelain clarinets on this board I found some
historical info on the company, but does anybody know how one of these instruments sounds? Whether it's a decent clarinet or not?

No one has answered you question so I'll just throw out some general comments. The company is long out of business as you have already discovered. The odds of someone on this board having the paticular model that you are interested in are pretty slim. It's unlikely that anyone can render opinions on your questions. If you have a chance try out the one you are considering. Examine the construction and see if it is well put together. If you can't play and examine it, either pass or don't pay much for it. I'm guessing, of course, that you've seen one that you are considering buying.

I would tend to agree with Dee. Outside of the fact that a brand doesn't make a given clarinet good or bad.

There are many Buffet R-13s made that are great, many that are mediocre, and many that are bad (it's that green wood stuff.....)... and the same with other brands. Each clarinet has to stand on its' own.

Your best bet is to play the instrument in question and if you can't, weigh your options.
