I'm considering to purchase used Selmer Signature for my daughter who plays old RC for 12 years.
The seller says the serial number is M57XX.
I know the serial number of Selmer clarient has leading character and subsequent five numeric digits.
I wonder it should be a old model..
Do you know when this instrument was manufactured?

Selmer Paris serial numbers are typically (for the last 70 or more years) a letter followed by four numeric digits. Series 9 clarinets from the 1960s were Sxxxx and Txxxx. My 10G from the 1970s is Zxxxx, and they went back to the beginning of the alphabet with Axxxx shortly after that. The Signature is a fairly new model, and a serial number of Mxxxx seems right for a fairly new clarinet. I'm not sure when the Signature first came out, but it has been less than 10 years, i would think.

If you still haven't found out what you need to know, I have the email address for the serial number person in Selmer Paris. Their website should also have all the info you need.

As long as it sounds good ans is in good repair, the age of the clarinet is irrelevant.

I love old RCs.I haven't met a bad one, despite I have tried munerous. I am a very happy owner of an RC from 1976. I found the RC's are wood very fine and massive they have beautiful tone. If your daughter likes that instrument, you should spent your mone in the overhaul of that clarinet.
Just a piece of advice. I fully agree with JJAlbrecht!!!!!!!!!!
