I am wondering which one out of this list are highly recommended for two clarinetists of rather equal ability (we don't one one part really easy). We both are 1 and 2 in the Wind Ensemble at our school.
Airs and Waltzes from The Magic Flute Play any two contr. mvts. except Nos. 8, 9, and 11
Composer: Mozart/Fuchs
Belwin Master Duets Vol. 1 Adv. Play pgs. 28-32 with repeats-Rondo in Ab (Diabelli)
Composer: Various Composers/Snell
Two Grand Duets No. 2 Play mvt. II, plus mvts. I or III
Composer: Cavallini
Sonata No.1 in Eb Major Play mvt. II plus one more
Composer: Stark
Six Duets Op. 74 Play No. 1 or No. 6
Composer: Devienne/Kirkbride
Six Concertante Duets Play any one
Composer: Various Composers/Ayres
Sonata No. 483
Composer: Scarlatti/Rubin
Twelve Duets KV. 487 Play Nos. 1 and 6 with repeats
Composer: Mozart/Dishinger
Eight Concert Duets Play one from Nos. 1, 3, 6 or 8
Composer: Cragun
Selected Duets for Clarinet Vol. II Adv. Play pgs. 45-47
Composer: Quantz/Voxman
(I just copied this list from WSMA) THanks!

not the Six Concertante Duets or Selected Duets for Clarinet Vol. II, we have both of those books and i'm not impressed by anything in either of them. theyre easy, and well, i just dont really like anything from either of them...

I would do the 6 duets(Devienne/kirkbride), or the Scarlatti Sonata

Amanda Rose -
The Selected Duets (Voxman), book 2, are the place to start. They're wonderful music, and the parts are practically equal.
If you're not limited to the specific ones you list, try vol. 3 of the Lazarus method, which has some fairly difficult and very showy duets, with absolutely equal parts, plus some lovely "operatic duets."
If you're comfortable playing high, check in the flute section of your music store for duets by Khulau, which are excellent.
For the most fun of all, grab the # 3 player and go to the end of the Langenus method part 3 for a transcription of the Beethoven trio for 2 oboes and English horn.
Best regards.
Ken Shaw
Have fun.

Larry Combs and Eddie Daniels performed an exciting, finger-busting duet
(unaccompanied) together during their portion of the 1998 Clarfest at Ohio State. It was one of their encore numbers and not on the program, I believe it was the second to last piece they played and five stands worth. Neither announced the title after finishing and someone in the audience had to speak up and ask what it was. Eddie muttered out the title but for the life of me I don't remember it, or wrote it down, and anything Eddie performed/recorded wasn't releasable. Anyone by chance there and remember what that piece was? It was a real hoot!
