Hello all,
I have a newly acquired Leblanc alto clarinet, serial number 7539.
A google search didn't help: I have found several references to many Leblanc models, but not a single reference to Leblanc altos, just Noblet ones, for which this serial number doesn't match.
I also tried a board search, and found nothing.
Can anyone help? It's not life or death, but I'd really like to know.

Its a little hard finding serial # data on the Leblanc altoes. Hard even to find the model #, which I think is "420"
One post in the Leblanc Alto thread here (about 40 hits when I typed in Leblanc Alto serial) who sounds very authoritive, says the Leblanc folks changed to the 'new' "swan shaped" neck in 1964 at about ser.# 7,000. I've got a couple, one with a # close to yours at #7577, which for some unknown reason I have written 1963?? I think that date is from the Bass Clarinet ser.# lists at clarinet perfection.com. Since the dates and #s are in the same ballpark, maybe they used the same serial # sequence for basses and altos?

Thank you very much for the Infos.
Around 1960/1965 was my (wild) guess...
Regarding the "swan shaped" neck change, I can add that a friend of mine has a Leblanc alto with the swan shaped neck (the instrument is identical to the one I have) which has a lower serial number, around 5500 if memory serves.

It's possible that serial numbers depends on where the instruments were imported to. More info here http://www.lynsgarden.co.uk/Clarinets.html and click from the left menu on "A note about Leblanc family clarinets".
