I have just heard that the great Hungarian clarinetist, Jozsef Balogh, will be replacing David Etheridge in Oklahoma for the upcoming academic year. The appointment may be extended beyond 2010-11 but this has yet to be determined. Apparently the appointment of Mr. Balogh was a request of Mr. Etheridge himself, who held Jozsef Balogh in high esteem as both a player and a musician.
Indeed Balogh Jozsef (as he is known in Hungary) is a most unusual clarinetist whose command and stylistic range are remarkable by almost any standards. As if that's not enough, the man is also a talented and accomplished composer and arranger, with a large catalogue of clarinet pieces to his credit.
I know Jozsef Balogh and can also say that he is an extremely open and friendly individual who is sincerely interested in helping younger players reach their highest possible attainment. I therefore feel that the students in Oklahoma will be very well served in the year ahead.

We found out at the ICA ClarinetFest this past July that the Symposium will continue under the direction of David's wife. I believe it will be 7/14 - 7/16 if memory serves. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
