I need to read some Alto Saxophone parts on my Bb Clarinet for a community musical. Also need to read Soprano Sax parts (but it is a Bb instrument so no change right?). How would I transpose this? I am thinking I need to read up a 5th, is that correct? Also, a little confused on the octaves. Thanks for any help.

Soprano Sax is in Bb, so you are fine there reading the parts as is.
Alto is in Eb. You actually will need to go down a 5th.
So on Alto Sax will be on Bb Clarinet.

If you are playing a musical, you should play the instruments called for in the book. Alto sax is not that hard a challenge to learn if you are a fairly competent clarinetist--certainly easier than transposing and trying to match the sound of the rest of the pit. Sax is a fun instrument--give it a try. BTW, are you playing "Annie"? If so, the sop sax part needs to be played on the soprano for optimum effect.

In the low register, use C (high register) fingerings.
