 new mouthpieces

Hi all! I am trying three Vandoren mouthpieces (M15, M30, and M13 lyre) and my teacher said to use mouthpiece patches and tape to prevent ligature scratches. I have the mouthpiece patches, but I was wondering what kind of tape to use? Just regular scotch tape, or some kind of white masking tape?
Thanks!

Pretty much any tape will do as long as it is easy to remove and doesn't leave adhesive residue. Scotch tape usually works pretty well for this purpose.

You probably don't need tape for the ligature if you're careful and you are using a metal ligature but if you want to use something that won't leave glue on the MP as suggested above. Scotch tape can be difficult to remove sometimes. Painters or masking tape will work fine, easy on and easy off, no glue left on MP. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

Masking tape worked a lot better for me than scotch tape. The scotch tape left behind a residue and was quite annoying to get off.
Black electrical tape has worked well too.

I have used painter's tape or black electrical tape.

Or just use a Rovner Light - NO scratches ever.

NOT scotch tape. Too hard to get off easily. The other suggestions (electrical, masking) should be fine. My vote is electrical tape. Good grip, a nice thick cushion, and fairly closely resembles a mouthpiece patch with it's thickness. Also very easy to remove.
